I couldn’t watch another car pull in
Too long working at the sunset garage
So I picked up my life and emptied out everything
Only ‘cause everything was all I could manage
Got onto a train that didn’t seem to have an end
Worked things out so I couldn’t get back
I thought of all the things I’d try and never do again
But I was very careful to make no promises about that
Took a room above the army surplus
Took a little too long to find a job
And I wandered around tired and nervous
And I wandered into a blind spot

You all know, if you know anything

It’s hard to keep moving and it’s hard to keep still
And if you’ve got a man, you’ll know it’s no use telling him
Talking doesn’t kill you, like silence will
You wouldn’t know it to look at me now
But I once went all out looking to make friends
I started drinking too much, and laughing too loud
And I didn’t worry how the night was gonna end
Hey, I’ll meet you on Friday at the lock-up
Cause tomorrow the boss is is going away
We could both do with some money in our pocket
We’ll only take what he’s supposed to pay
You ask why don’t I ever call home
Well just cause they don’t ever call me
You said do you want me to leave you alone, I can do that,
Just keep driving if I fall asleep
You all know, if you know anything
It’s hard to keep moving and it’s hard to keep still
And if you’ve got a man, you’ll know it’s no use telling him
Talking won’t kill you, but silence will
I met somebody and then we were always together
And then we weren’t together anymore
Never hang up all your hopes on another
You need to keep some friends around that’s for sure
And so I went all out looking for some
I started drinking too much, and laughing too loud
But I thought maybe someday somebody else will come
And they’ll know exactly what I’m talking about now
You took some time to get used to
And I know I took some life out of us
But now I don’t ever want to lose you
And so I’m running to catch that bus
